One of the most spectacular home holiday light shows anywhere is in Bill Vaughan's huge front yard of his house in Fairfax County, Virginia between Old Town Alexandria and Mount Vernon. There is music to go with the show played through speakers by the road and a low power FM signal for car radios. A retirement home across the street on a hill with a great view of the show has a lot where visitors can park to see the wonderful displays and listen to the music on their radios.
The picture below should whet your appetite to see more. The Collingwod Lights Site, has more than a dozen pictures, a video of the 2018 winning of a holiday lights competition, and information about their development over 25 years. If you are in the Washington area during the holiday season, it is well worth the trip there, about half an hour from downtown, on a night with decent weather. It is a good idea to check the link above before heading there because they may be dark due to the weather, and in 2019 and 2020, there were no lights because Bill wasn't able to handle the work. He intends to have them in future years.
